Princess Mononoke

Princess Mononoke is on of my favorite movies. It was created by a Japanese man named Hayao Miyazaki. Princess Mononoke is a story of courage. It is the story of a young prince named Ashitaka. He is given a deadly curse by a demon bore; which in the end will tear his sole apart and then kill him. The only one who could possibly save him is the Great Forest Spirit. So he travels to the forest of the Great Forest Spirit. There he meets all kinds of new people and he experiences things he has never ever experience before his curse. He falls in love with the princess of the wolf gods. Who just so happens to be human; left at the feet of Moro the great wolf god by her parents, she is raised as if she were one of Moro's two cubs. With people trying to get the Great Forest Spirit's head for it's magical properties Ashitaka must convince the wolf gods to help him save the Great Forest Spirit.

With blood, loss of body parts, near death experiences, and wars I think guys would enjoy this show. For others though there is romance, trust, loyalty, friendship, the changing of lives and life styles, and all kinds of stuff that follows those lines.

There are other movies some what similar to this one which I might blog about some other time in the future.

Pandora

My English teacher made me do my mythology project on Pandora so here's most of what I wrote.

Shrill screams fill the air! Evil is unleashed! Pandora’s Box has been opened and we owe it all to mythology’s Pandora. Pandora, the first woman, was created by the Gods in order to get back at Prometheus. She was given many gifts both physical and mental among them was a beautiful box that she was told to never open. Then Pandora was sent to earth, but her curiosity got the better of her and she opened the box unleashing evil into the world. According to the Christian religion Eve would be mythology’s Pandora since both were created by the same thing. Men will normally blame the woman for the bad things that happen, so why not the first woman hence poor Pandora. Pandora’s world and Eve’s world, though the same planet, were interlay different. Pandora is both similar and different to Eve.

Pandora and Eve were both created by a god, but for two different reasons. The God Hephaestus was ordered by Zeus to make Pandora because Zeus was angry at Prometheus, while Eve was made by the Christian God. Both were created to be wives of men, Pandora for Epimetheus and Eve for Adam. Epimetheus or “after thought” was the brother of Prometheus and wouldn’t see the trouble Pandora would cause. Pandora was given to Epimetheus because Prometheus means “before thought” and he would have see the trouble she would cause. Also he was chained to a rock getting his liver eaten, but that’s another story. Eve was given to Adam because he needed a partner. Seeing that Pandora is female and she unleashes evil, the common blame the female is very noticeable.

Men have almost always blamed the woman for misfortune. In the Garden of Eden all was well there was peace between all living things. Then Eve is tempted by the devil to take part in a supposable very delicious fruit that will allow her to know the difference between good and evil. She later partakes of the fruit, which causes her to be cast out of the Garden along with Adam who partook of the fruit also. Pandora was given the gift of curiosity and then she was given a beautiful box which she was told to never ever open. She managed to not open the box for a time, but then the poor girl’s curiosity got the best of her and she opened the box unleashing evil for all time and eternity. After realizing what she had done she quickly closed the box, but she trapped Hope inside when she shut it. Obviously both Pandora and Eve had similar and different worlds all together.

Both of their worlds were so similar, but ever so different. In Pandora’s world Gods were constantly involved in people’s lives. With Zeus and his thunder bolts, Hera and her jealousy, and Poseidon had his vanity the world peoples fates were made for them. In Eve’s world God came down to teach her and Adam and then left. He also communicated with them personally. In reality Eve and Pandora aren’t really that different.

Pandora is similar to the Christian’s Eve. Both were created by a god. Both Pandora and Eve are blamed, to an extent, for the evils of the world. Both of the worlds the lived were similar to an extent. Pandora is the Christian’s Eve.

Online Classes

The disadvantages of any online class is that you don't have a teacher right there telling you to get the work done. Also, sometimes the work they have you do is tricky and since there really no due date to have it done by you can just tell yourself that you will do some other time when you can figure it out better. I guess another way to put it would be that it's very easy to blow off.

There advantages of having an online class. Those can be that you get more credit and you end up learning a lot more than you would if you just go to school and do nothing else. Also, depending on the class you can do it all over the computer. Though sometime they do make you do this one thing and in order to do that you have to get out of your chair.

In order to succeed in such a class, you have to tell yourself you're going to do it and make a game plan. (Something I need to still figure out). Like say I spend eight hours at school so as soon as I get home I'll do my homework. When my homework is done I can then come and work on this one online class for today and then tomorrow I'll do a different class. So basically you need to schedule your self so that you can do all of these classes and hang out with your friends some time.

Weird Story

A long time ago, there was a dog. Its favorite thing to do was play Tulfe (game I totally made up). It's a game kind of like hide-and-seek with some tag in it, with its master, Travis Jones. The Joneses like to be outside with their dog. The Joneses' dog loves their son Travis more than anyone else. Travis's friend hates dogs. His older brothers had told him many horror stories about dogs attacking people. His mind now says that dogs are evil. So when Travis's friend came to the Joneses' house for dinner. The dog's feelings were hurt because he hit the dog's nose. Travis's friend can't come to the Joneses' house anymore. Travis doesn't play with that friend anymore either.

Quiet People

This thought just randomly jumped into my mind when I was at lunch waiting for my own friends, and I saw a lot of people who I at least knew what their name was, but thought that it would be really weird for someone to just randomly call out their name and say a simple "how is it going?" or even simply "Hi."

It's common to have at least one quiet person in a class. Let's take (making up name) Travis Jones. You know the kid with all the A's, who you think thinks he's to good for you. Did you ever think that maybe the Jones family is having a hard time so Travis has to get good grades so he can get a scholarship or even Travis's family might scold him every time he gets an A- or the poor kid is just too shy to just randomly come up to you or anyone else and say "Hi my name is Travis Jones, will you be my friend?"

Some of you may even be a person a lot like this Travis Jones guy that I came up with, and know exactly what I am talking (or rather writing) about, right? Well I have noticed also that you need to be the first person to talk, because all those people who look like they are having a lot of fun with out you are not going to come to you, they probably won't even notice that you are there, you have to do something first.

Homework

This is what I didn't say when I wrote my response in the discussion board, because I wanted to write about it here, but so you don’t have to go look I wrote: I think homework should be what ever you don't get done in class or an assignment you get five/ten minutes before the bell, so you can ask question. I believe homework is to keep the brain active, but two hours per class is just wwwwaaaayyyy to much; thirty minutes per class is a totally different story.

On with the blog entry:

Did you know that a biology book weighs 6 pounds? It's the total and honest truth; I just weighed it. My biology teacher decided that we needed these workbook/notebooks. One chapter is nine pages, and in order to do it you have to have the book with you because all the answers are word for word out of the book answers. I seriously think my back's going to break.

I have to read my scriptures daily, but that's not a big deal because it's like fifteen minuets and you're done.

Thirty minutes of playing the violin daily could bore one to death. When you only have ten/fifteen minutes of music it gets boring, but some times when you get really cool music and you just want to play it again and again and again you find that you just played a good forty five minuets. Which can be fun, but it can become boring after a while.

Geography is OK simply because we never have more than an hour of homework a week. Like today we got a map that we had to find this, this, and this place; which took me around fifteen minutes.

Geometry we almost never have homework which I might say is a blessing in a way. If not I’m quite sure I'd be staying up till twelve doing homework some nights.

In Spanish you have about ten to fifteen minutes a week. Which is either a short activity from the book that can be done in ten minutes, or our homework’s a worksheet. She wants us to listen to Spanish music, or Spanish radio, or something like that everyday, though.

English (thank you Mr. T.) the only homework you really get is the stuff you just didn't finish in class or you were to busy talking to that neighbor of yours about nothing of importance.

Then there's the whole Honors English thing which takes up time too.

After that there's the online courses my mother is making me take. I take computer tech. and earth systems online. (If you want to do online courses then you must have a free schedule or be really good at time managing.) My mom's my time manager, (even though I'd do it by my self after I finished reading) when I'm not doing something "productive" then she makes me do them.

Also, I used to have a lot of free time, but not anymore. It's not even funny. Yep, that's my daily homework. This is less than some, but more than others.

Midterms

I've had a lot of midterms but honestly, I don't think I've ever had a perfect midterm grades. I know shocking. But it is one hundred percent true. I've always had an A- or B+ somewhere on my midterm report card. It gets frustrating when your mother says "Why are these not A's?" and your answer is I just did not do so well on this test and boom A-! My mom glares at me and tells me to do better. Some times I think she says "or else" but I can't be sure. She’s very good at hiding those kinds of threats. How where your midterms, guys?

Orchestra

I like Orchestra for a number of reasons:

  1. Teaches you how to read music

  2. Let's you spend time with your friends

  3. Teaches you how to multitask

  4. Helps you gain knowledge of all kinds of music

  5. Let's you learn a lot about four different instruments.

  6. The four instruments: Violin, Viola, Cello, and Bass.

I play the violin. The violin is the smallest instrument in the Orchestra. It is also the highest in pitch. Over half the orchestra is made of people who play the violin. Because so many people play the violin they had to split them into two sections 1st violins and 2nd violins. Its strings are (from bottom to top) G, D, A, and E. All notes are in the treble clef.

The viola is another instrument in the Orchestra. It is a bit bigger than the violin. It also has a lower pitch. But is for the most part played like a violin. Its strings are (from top to bottom) A, D, G, and C. All notes are in the tenor clef.

My sister plays the cello. The cello is the only instrument in the Orchestra that you must sit down to play. Its strings are (from top to bottom) A, D, G, and D. All notes are in the bass clef.

The Bass is used in both Orchestra and Jazz bands. It is the biggest instrument in the entire Orchestra. Its strings are (from top to bottom) E, A, D, and G. All of its notes are (get this) in the bass clef. :D

Each one of these instruments is essential for an orchestra to be an orchestra. With out one or the other an orchestra does not quite complete it's self. With out the violins you loose the melody. Without the violas you loose "altos". With out the cello you loose the "tenors". With out the Bass you loose the bass, the deep metronome.

All instruments together make beautiful music, a harmony, a melody, a song. Anyone can learn to play one of these instruments. And I mean anyone. Yes that's you who just so happens to have given me a portion of time from your busy lives and read this blog of just thrown out there thoughts. Anyone can learn anything they put their minds to. That is why I love Orchestra.

Finished!

I finished the Count of Monte Cristo on Monday but have been to happy to write anything. But I just wanted to let you know that since I said that I wouldn't have it done until tomorrow.

Younger Siblings

Don't you just love your younger siblings? I do. Things they do to make me love them are:

- tell mom that it was my fault when it was really theirs
- complain that I have been on the computer way to long doing things unrelated to school, when I have only been on the computer for five minutes doing school related things. (Like this blog).
- read over you shoulder what you are doing
- you do something for them that one time and then they turn around and get you grounded

Don't you just love younger siblings?

P.S. About the loving thing that's sarcastic. :)

Blog Post #7

Ok so there is physically no way that I could possibly finish the Count of Monte Cristo. It has proved to be more of a challenge than all the elementary books my sister brings home for me to read. (Mom wants me to read all of the books she reads so that her mind won’t become “perverted” or what not). So I might (emphasis on the might) be able to complete the Count of Monte Cristo by Thursday since I am (little happy dance) a little over half way done with the book.

Second Person Point of View

Have you ever wondered why there are almost no books written in second person point of view? I will tell you why right now. It is because people aren’t creative. If you wanted to write a book in second person it would be very easy because you could simply name your book something like Imagine You Were Me or something like that. You could start your story saying “If you were me this is how your life would be” or something like that. It could be an autobiography put in second person or it could be a biography in second person.

If it were to be an autobiography you could think of it as a journal made a lot more fun. For instance if with a normal journal you would right “Today was boring,” you might instead in your Imagine You Were Me book you could write “This morning your dad told you that you have to mow the lawn when you get home. Then your geography teacher couldn’t be quiet about something somewhere in the Pacific Ocean and just give you and the rest of your classmates, what ever form of pain she planed on giving us for homework. Etc.

If it was to be a biography you could do it on some dead important person like some king who ruled France three hundred years ago. Or something like that.

See people just need to use their imaginations every once and a while and you can come up with the coolest things.

Life

What is life? Life is as it's spelled.

L is for love.
I is for icky.
F is for fun.
E is for entertainment.

The Count of Monte Cristo

I'm on page 97 that's chapter XVI or I think 16 (tell me if I'm wrong) and so far this book has been very interesting. I was so glad when I had finally read like 70 pages cause that's when I finally could figure out why Edmond was in prison (other than that's what the author wanted). I plan on having this book done or almost complete by Monday (if I'm lucky). :D

500 Words

The instructions say to write at least 500 words a week. So here's a start. So if were going to be typing over 500 words a week how do we know how many word we still have to write. Or in other words does this have a word count? Anybody know?
